Early Easter

Since none of us will be home on Easter this year, we decided to take the opportunity to celebrate a little early while Abby was still home. Abby and I made some treats and we tried out a new method for dying eggs in a mixture or food coloring in water/oil:

Abby left Saturday afternoon, but we had some time during the day, so I made a second little tea for all of us to enjoy together:

Afternoon Tea at Cake Bloom

We have a newish cake shop in town, and they recently started offering afternoon tea service. Abby and I decided to check it out:

Baking Hamantaschen 2024

It was fun that Abby was here for Purim this year (it's a Jewish leap year - meaning an extra month in the calendar - so all of the holidays fall later than usual):

Unboxing Our Purim Basket

Abby was excited to do an official review of this year's contents. The theme was "sunshine":

Art Day

I came home from work early on Monday, and Abby and I decided to spend some time with our watercolors before dinner and heading to the library for a paper cutting class:

Abby and I chose the same template, but I did a wall hanging and she did a card:

Saint Patrick's Day 2024

We had a busy Saint Patrick's Day Sunday. We started with brunch with Gammy (featuring homemade Irish Soda Bread) and then headed over to Staunton to see Pride and Prejudice at the Shakespeare Theater. After dinner of Christian's Pizza and pistachio pudding, we'd planned on a game night, but we were all tired and watched an episode of X Files instead:

World Panda Day

We celebrated by watching YouTube videos, but Abby also insisted on having her panda Tai Shan in attendance (we'd always told Abby Tai Shan was born in the National Zoo the same year that she was, and she was scandalized when we found out that he was actually born in 2005. I think we gave her the stuffed version for her first birthday?):

Woodwinds Day

On Saturday, Kevin took Benji down to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg to participate in Woodwinds Day. He ended up being the only clarinet to show, so it was basically an extended private lesson, a chance to watch a master class and then a recital by VA Tech faculty and students:

Pi Day 2024

Yesterday was Pi Day, so of course we had pie. Kevin made a veggie pot pie and Abby and I made a peanut butter pie with chocolate ganache on top:

Ladies' Night at Quirk

Elisabeth's mom Rebecca invited Lucy's mom Ophelia and I for drinks to catch up and reconnect, which was a lovely time. And the rooftop bar at the Quirk Hotel is beautiful:

CHS Black History field trip

The 10th grade English classes at CHS took a field trip to UVA this week in honor of Black History month. They visited the Small Collections library to take in an exhibit on the Harlem Renaissance and heard a talk at the memorial to Enslaved Laborers on grounds. Not sure Benji is actually in any of these pictures that the school released, but he was there :)
