Olympic Rings

The theme for this week's swim meet was the Olympics, and Benji's friends talked him into taking part in a "rings" costume. When I asked him which ring Solly (red shirt) was, he said "he's the torch, of course":

After the fiasco that was last year's vineyard concert (where everyone's music got blown all over the place), they held this year's concert in the vineyard's beautiful event space:

Father's Day 2024

Started the day with breakfast and gifts

 

We bought these at a specialty store in Richmond (it only sells oatmeal cream pies) and saved them for a Father's Day taste test

After lunch, we did an Edgar Allen Poe themed escape room at Unlocked history. Here is Benji posing as Fortunato (from the Cask of Amontillado)

The lighting was funky, bot the host took this silly picture of us after we solved it (with 5 minutes to spare)

We ended the day with dinner at home -- Kevin made pop-pop's pasta and I made a peach crisp with the first of the tomatoes and peaches we found at the farmer's market.

Family Day Out in Richmond

We delayed our "mini golf to celebrate the end of school" for a week and went to Richmond to check out Hotel Greene a quirky indoor mini golf space designed to look like a hotel. They had a great deal for brunch and a round of golf, so we made reservations for that:

The food was really good and the plating was fancy

After golfing, we headed over to the VMFA to see the special samurai exhibit:

We ended the night at our old favorite Addis for Ethipian food before heading home.

Kevin got a $50 gift card to this outlet book warehouse in the valley as part of his golden apple award 5 years ago. We finally made our way out there last week and everyone picked up a few fun things:

We ate the traditional cheese blintzes and cheesecake for the holiday and enjoyed the summer weather and blooming flowers in our backyard:

Family Poker Tournament

We decided on a winner-take-all Texas Hold 'Em tournament ($10 buy in), but have had to play it over several nights because no one has been knocked out:

UVA Baseball Super-regional

Kevin was very excited to get tickets, and the Hoos swept up in two days and are headed to Omaha:

Only Kevin and Benji went to the first game on Friday, because Abby was up in DC getting her Visa and I picked her up from the train

Abby joined them on Saturday (I stayed home to work)
