Goodbye Durham, Hello Edinburgh

On our last morning in Durham, we had to leave the cottage by 10:30am, but our train was not until the afternoon. We took the time to head into the city one more time for a quiet breakfast before walking onto the station:

Scenic walk back to the train

Oldest cottage in Duhman, situated right on the river Wear

We arrived in Edinburgh in late afternoon and walked along Princes Street, with great views of the castle:

There were lots of birds swooping around the gardens, which gave me a sense of where JK Rowling got her idea for the owls in Harry Potter (she wrote the first book at at cafe in Edinburgh)

Cute little display in an old red phone box on the street

After we dropped off our stuff, we headed out to look at the New Town section of Edinburgh:

Bridge over the river Leith

Down the hill to Dean Village

Way of Water walk

Circus Lane

After dinner, we ended up back on Princes Street to take in the gardens and views:

Roses everywhere

And thistle

Sun going down over the Firth of Forth as we walked back to our guest house at 10pm
