Learning Lessons

Abby sometimes grabs Benji on a weekend morning or quiet weekday afternoon for what she calls learning lessons.  These run the gamut from writing the alphabet to how to dress a doll.  I woke up Saturday to find them hidden behind the playroom couch doing this:

I don;t think she succeeded in teaching him to tie his shoes, but man was it sweet!

Shemesh Sports and Game Night

Benji's class has been exploring games and sports since they got back from Winter Break.  They have played board games, built their own sports equipment and tried out lots of different activities.  To cap off all of this learning, they hosted a sports and game night for their families.  At this dinner, they showed off what they had learned, played with each other, and even shared their very own board game that they made up and built.  Here are some pictures of the big night:

Abby came, too:

The kids showed off their exercise club  moves:

Benji led them in "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" (I wish we had gotten video - he was great!):

Look how sweaty he is!

We ended the night with a slideshow of all the things they had done.  Well, and then the kids ended it by playing "shadows" in the projector light:

My Potato Head

Took a few hours off of work one morning last week to chaperone a field trip for Benji, which started a little later.  We spent the time at home playing with some lesser-used toys.  Benji was very interested in making a potato head.  He wanted painted toe nails and a sticking out tongue.  Here his is, very proud of his creation.

That 70s Show

Greenbrier Elementary School celebrated its 50th anniversary last week with a special assembly. Each grade was assigned a decade to represent. The 3rd graders were given the 70s. Abby was also chosen to deliver a speaking part (about the oil crisis). The kids also got to dress up, which was adorable.

Field Trip to a Field

In furtherance of their study of sports and games, Benji's class took a field trip to a real soccer field.  There was also a trail nearby, for added excitement:

Torah Alive

The third grade students at CBI participate in a Torah Alive program every spring. Each student chooses a biblical character to dress up as and writes a poem about that person. Abby chose the princess from the Passover story. Here she is reading her poem:

We managed a group shot afterwards.  Don't they look cute?
