We celebrated by goign to Krispy Kreme. You can actually get a free original doughnut every day at KK by showing your vaccine card (which we did, of course), but in addition, you could get any dougnut of your choice free for National Doughnut Day, so we did that as well. Raspberry for Benji, Oreo for Abby, Cake for Kevin and Kreme for Ruth:
Benji had his first summer swim team practice on June 1st and it was great to be back at the pool. He said it made him tired quickly, but his stroke is so much longer than it was two years ago:
We had the Duke family over for a casual BBQ. I had Posy in my lap most of the evening, so Abby was kind enough to capture a few pictures:
We woke up to the sound of an explosion Sunday morning and the beeping of our power winking out. When we looked out the window, we could see flames coming off the top of our utility poll, which resulted in Abby making a hasty call to 911 (after Kevin tried to call using our land line, which was, of course, knocked out with the power). The Fire Department came and watched the flames for about 45 minutes (presumably to make sure they did not spread) until Dominion came and doused them:
By the time the fire was out (and we could leave our house -- they had told us to stay inside because of the live wires), we were ready for breakfast and decided to go out, since we were tired and had no power (and it was still only 7:30 in the morning). After a nice meal outside at First Watch, we returned home to survey the damage:
Just for fun when I was at Trader Joe's last week, I picked up a bunch of different types of gnocchi for us to sample. We decided to have our gnocchi tasting on Saturday night, before Kevin and I headed to Staunton to see Macbeth:
For our 20th Anniversary, Kevin and I both took vacation time to have a "date day" while the kids were at school. We started off with outdoor breakfast on the downtown mall, and then made our way to Richmond where we visited Agecroft Hall:
Agecroft Hall was built in England in the late 13th or early 14th Century, but it fell into disrepair during the industrial revolution. It was eventually purchased by T.C. Williams, who transported it to Richmond to serve as his family home. When he died, he left it to his wife, but he also established a trust to turn it into a museum of Tudor living after she was done with it. The house has been restored to its Tudor-era appearance and has lavish gardens which were fun to wander through. We had a late afternoon picnic in one of the sunken gardens before heading home in time to pick Abby up from CHS. After spending a little time with the kids, we capped the day off with dinner at the Ivy Inn, where they included some fun little touches to celebrate:
