National Honor Society

Abby found out on Friday that she was accepted into the National Honor Society, and we told her she could pick out a special dessert to celebrate. It was too late on Friday to order anything and we had other plans on Saturday, so on Sunday we got a Ben and Jerry's cake:

Gin Rummy

Benji's school work is not as time-consuming as real school and he has been looking for new activities for his free time. He'd gladly play on the switch all day,  but we limit him to 30 minutes on the weekdays and an hour on weekends. I taught him to play gin rummy last week and he's been loving that:

Purim 2021

We watched the Zoom purimspiel in the den. It was Hamilton-themed and very good:

Baking Hamentaschen

The festival of Purim start on Thursday and in preparation we decided to bake Hamentashen last night. We tried a new recipe for the day and it was perfect so we're goign to hold on to it for next year. Alexa had a surprisingly fun Purim song medley that we streamed while we baked and after we got the cookies in the oven, Abby led her own round of her favorite Purim song, which comes with hand motions (Shalosh Pinot, or My Hat has Three Corners):

FTC Competition #2

Because of the timing, Abby's FTC team had to do its second competition live. After much discussion, Abby and Elisabeth (as team co-leaders) decided to stay back and send the three boys who had the most experience driving the robot. Abby anxiously watched the live matches from home (on two computers monitoring the two different live streams):

Mardi Gras 2021

We had our traditional meal of muffulettas and hush puppies, but instead of king cake we tried to make paczki, which are doughnuts that people of Polish descent make for Mardi Gras (to use up their animal fats). They traditionally have jelly in the center, but I opted to make Bavarian cream felling because we like it better:
