The Great Western Road Trip 2018: Grand Tetons (Day 1)

On Monday morning, we drove the last 2 hours up to Grand Teton and, after checking into our hotel (The Antler Inn) made our way into the park. This first afternoon, we drove the scenic loop and stopped at all the overlooks. We had hoped to hike Jenny Lake at sunset, but had a freak hail storm that drove us back to Jackson Hole for the evening:

Ground squirrel, also known as a whistle pig. They sing!

This is the view from Ansel Adam's iconic picture of the park

This is the first bison we saw. Giving himself a dirt bath to attract the ladies.

Pronghorn antelope

Great blue heron nest

Oxbox Bend

Pelicans taking flight

This was our first elk, hiding in the trees

The peak on the left is called Cathedral peak, for obvious reasons

With everyone, back in Jackson Hole
