We started out early on Thursday morning, with hopes of getting to Hoover Dam by opening time (when it would possibly be both cooler and less crowded. This might have been marginally true, but it was still very warm and very full):

Once we finished up at the dam, we started the trek towards Grand Canyon. The scenery was beautiful, and different from what we had been seeing:
We enjoyed the views for about an hour, and then it started to pour. Despite the rain, we decided to detour when we saw signs for Historic Route 66, which was a fun little drive:
After a few hours of this, we were tired of the rain and decided to make a stop. We chose Williams, AZ, which has this distinction:

Miraculously, it stopped raining shortly before we got to the Grand Canyon and we were able to get out and see the park in the evening (more on that tomorrow).
