Road Trip 2021: Three Days in Boston

We got to Boston mid-afternoon on Saturday and were relieved to be able to check into our hotel before the baseball game. Once we dropped our stuff, it was a short walk to Fenway, where we enjoyed watching the only Yankees win for the series:

On Sunday, we met up with Alex and Julia to tour MIT and Tufts, with a short side stroll through Harvard. Both campuses offered a decent audio walking tour, which we largely followed:

The girls were so excited to be on the MIT campus

They mostly just wanted to see Harvard, which very much did look like the movie idea of a college campus

Jumbo is the Tufts mascot. Apparently PT Barnum was a trustee, and when Jumbo died he had her stuffed and presented to Tufts. The actual stuffed elephant burned up in a fire, but the AD, passing by the flames, scooped up the ashes in an empty peanut butter jar he was carrying (?!?) and they still live in the current AD's office today. Teams shake the jar of ashes for luck before games. This sculpted elephant was donated as a replacement.

We spent that evening with Gail and John in their house in Hingham. Here is John giving Benji some instruction on pool

On Monday, we hit three more colleges before moving on from Boston:

Only one person could join Abby on the BC tour, so Benji and I hung out at the bookstore, where he read most of Alison Bechdal's Fun Home

The eagle is BC's mascot

At Northeastern. We never got a picture at Olin's sad, tiny campus, and only Alex went with the girls on this tour, but he kindly sent a picture
