Lakes Road Trip 2019: Acadia, Day 1

We left early from Greenville and got to Acadia with a full day still ahead of us. After a brief stop to see the first views off the loop road, we made our way to Jordan Pond House for lunch with beautiful views and their famous popovers:

They each ate 2 of these giant (and fresh from the oven) popovers

After lunch we took a few minutes to explore the trails right by the pond, but opted not to walk the 4 mile loop, in favor of hiking to the Bubbles summit instead:

That's the Bubbles across the pond

Benji enjoyed watching the sunfish in the pond

Bubbles hike:

First mini-summit at South Bubble (we kept thinking we were at the top and then seeing more trail)

At the actual summit

This is Bubble Rock, which was left here by a glacier

With the kids, for size

It started to storm in the distance shortly after we got to the top of South Bubble (you can see it getting grey in the last picture above), so we hightailed it off the mountain. It poured on us as we drove back out of the park to our motel in Trenton, but just as we got off the island, it got sunny again and we saw a rainbow:

After a brief rest break (during which it started raining again), we headed into downtown Bar Harbor for dinner. We found a great restaurant on the harbor that had just opened its doors (because they can't serve food when it rains). Since we were among the first there, we got a great table right on the water:

While we were sitting, we spotted another rainbow!

We finished dinner right at sunset, which was pretty over the harbor:

We ended the night by walking around Bar Harbor a little and getting ice cream (of course).  And Benji posed with this lobster, which was outside the ice cream shop:
